Aztlan, meanwhile, has decided to send agents to Europe to find out more about the mysterious and vastly more powerful nations.

Colonize & Conquer 2: Medieval Mayhem - Page 14 Empty Re: Colonize & Conquer 2: Medieval Mayhem

Hans Haroldson, Bishop of Rome, sends a letter to the Pope, informing him of the doings of the Lux Quesitor, and suggests they handle the matter in the usual manner of the new church, i.e. by subverting them. He suggests having priests trained in the emerging science of medicine, and then sent to work in the areas where the red death is prevalent. The idea is that if the holy men can save lives, it will be fairly easy for the church to insist that the virulent disease is the work of the Devil, and something that can be ended by faith in God and by human tenacity and wisdom (which is a gift from God).

King Christian meets with the Tsar's envoy (who is probably now something of a fixture at court, considering the time he's been there. Assume he and King Christian have passed the time with relatively minor talks and trade negotiations.) and makes a large proposal - he would like to buy a significant amount of land from the Tsar. Specifically, Christian wants to buy enough of the land adjacent to Kalmar that the border between Russia and Kalmar is minimized. He expects that the Tsar will not be too unwilling to part with the land, considering how inhospitable it is, but offers him as much money as if the land were entirely sub-par farmland, and a favor to be called in in the future. Christian alludes here none too subtly to the military aggression which the Ottomans are displaying, suggesting Kalmar could aid the Russians, if things came to blows.

Furthermore, Kalmar notes both that France has been devastated by the Red Death, and that the disease seems to no longer be affecting the region. That in mind, it seems prudent to press the attack, especially since England doesn't seem to have been greatly affected, and the Kalmari troops are in the same condition, as they have been based out of England for a while now. (except for the Eastern Guard, which is still in Kalmar if I recall correctly.

Speaking of the Red Death, King Christian issues orders to all trade to stop with towns where the disease has been spotted, but at the same time sets in small units comprised of doctors, priests, and soldiers to maintain order and a sense of hope inside what are effectively quarantines.

Finally, Olavandia fares badly under the assault of the Ottomans falling back repeatedly under pressure. Finally they take refuge in a series of strong fortresses that have been built on the coast. The fortresses will not hold without reinforcement though. When Christian receives word of the colony's plight, he takes a bad situation and turns it to his advantage. He suggests that those living North of where the Red Death has spread so far might want to move down to the plague free colony, at the King's expense of course. A number of poor farmers and scared citizens take him up on the offer.
