Hrm. True...I can probably whip up an MMO character based off a popular stereotype.

Once the characters are made I'll explain the world in more detail

What character classes are available, what races, what are the parameters for character creation, what's the combat system like, what's the story behind the game (if any)?

All players are human

Characters are created like a normal MMO

The combat system is also a little like standard MMO's. Each character has a weapon, from single sword, sword and shield, maces, bows and such. The fighting is go out in the world in a party of players and when they meet monsters to fight its basically attack switch with another player, switch out rinse and repeat until dead. Go through the floor until you find the boss room. This is the biggest challenge of the game(Duh) and once you beat the boss the players are able to go to the next floor up.

I mean the story of the game within the RP, backstory if I was playing a Roleplayer archetype. But anyway.

So it seems there's no magic? Just weapons?

Yes there is no magic. In its stead players have sword skills, these increase attack power for a single strike. Think encounter powers

The story is characters get into the game but can't get out and if your health points reach 0 your real body dies as well

I know that much, I meant in-game, a la Skyrim's storyline being "defeat Alduin save the world." Though the way things go a RPer archetype would probably work much better for someone who's actually gone and watched the anime. I'm thinking a loony Troll archetype of the sort I usually play would be interesting...

Pursuing that line of thinking, what weapon choices do we have? Is there a set thing (like Skyrim having only bows, crossbows, axes, swords, hammers and maces) or can I pick anything I want (like a halberd, meteor hammer, macuahuitl, anchor, trident, three-section-staff, chakrams, sais, torches, butter knives, antlers, spiked armor, armitars, atlatls, slings)?

Right. In line with my idea of playing some dude who jumped on this game looking to troll people, I'm thinking the equivalent of Seananners playing a succubus* duel-wielding macuahuitls.

*Not an actual succubus, but the equivalent. Mainly to make people as inhumanly uncomfortable as possible.

wait, sorry, duel wielding is considered overpowered in the SAO system

Considered overpowered in the meta or actively impossible by design? Because the way you say it it's in the game, but overpowered (and thus frowned upon by the community) which would make it an even better choice. But if the game actively doesn't allow it (like Minecraft) that's a different story.

The other intriguing thing is how one reacts to being trapped in an opposite-gender body. I mean, choosing to play as one is all well and good (well over half my characters are female) but then being trapped in their body...Yay RPing!

The idea crated by the sorce material is that the avatars are changed to look like there real world bodys once they relize they are traped
