Southernization OOC

Welcome to another spin-off of C&C. Me and Mycro discussed yesterday how we wanted another C&C, which is an RP…NOT a risk game. You are going to start in Southern Asia (East India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand) as a medieval civilization. Of course that civilization is going to be custom made (I’ll provide a list further down on what to include).
Europe in real life discovered the America’s, advanced faster than the rest of the world, and spread it’s’ ideas across the globe not too long ago. Thus it was able to rule the world for quite a long time. In Southernization, Southern Asia is going to develop into Europe and instead of westernization, we are going to get “Southernization”. The rest of the world will be lesser civilizations who can be conquered and dominated by the Siamese/Australian powers. Beware however, the world holds may dangers (….maybe dinosaurs [thank Mycro]…) and lots of other surprises. Can you build an empire that will stand the test of time?
As I mentioned earlier, me and Mycro want this to be an RP. Nations have personalities too! To encourage this, the nation’s leaders are who are going to be RP’d. Give your heads of state personalities. Ambassadors back in the day used to travel long distances to negotiate. Thus they had great authority (due to lack of communications) to make treaties. They too need personalities. I also want to emphasize that I don’t want to see freedom of speech and religion in medieval states. Rapid liberalization is punishable by typhoons (I’ll warn you if I find you are liberalizing too fast). I don’t want to see 50 nations following the United States model.

Government: [All players start as feudal monarchy. The peasants (majority of population) is controlled by your nobles who are technically under your rule. Depending on the country the monarch has more or less power relative to the aristocracy. Don’t worry, I’m planning an event that will make your monarch and absolute ruler. Pick a king! Or queen!]
Religion: [Want to create your own? You can also have an existing religion or pick a custom religion from another player. If you create your own, you presumably are defender of faith…]
Economics: [You get to pick a mined material for your country (no rare Earths). I’ll distribute more possible minerals for you to mine based on secret maps that I made up. You do get to choose crops native to your region (you might want to pick food crops (hint hint). Rice probably for Asia and Mangrovies for Australia) and what your city produces (within reason)]
Military: [Currently for all countries: Small army owned by monarch and lots of small armies by his/her aristocracy. Navy is small and controlled by monarch]
Location: [Pick a country where you’d like to be. I’ll put together a map and distribute lands based on what you submit. If the country is large (Australia & Indonesia) be specific where you’d like to be. You’ll start with a city and surrounding lands. Kind of like civ.]

Religion: Unknown
Economics: Sources of obsidian undiscovered as well as iron. Does have good land for rice production and nicely situated for fishing...
Military: Small, yet able to fend off smaller barbarian skirmishes
Location: Modern day far east India (close to Bangladesh)

Blind
Name of Country: Tetsu clan (name of country or do they call themselves Japan?)
Government: Tribal leadership...monarchy even?
Religion:
Economics: On a island, so fishing is idea. Has (undiscovered) abundant sources of iron and copper.
Military: Seem a bit more militaristic, so they medium sized army. No navy yet...
Location: Southern Japan

Also, I realize that making countries takes time. You can already claim your location and make your country later. Just so that I can make rival nations...

So we're starting as pseudo-European feudal monarchies as opposed to the absolute monarchies of ancient times, then?

Originally that was the plan, but I suppose you could start out with an absolute monarchy. I'd planned it to be starting in medieval era, but then decided to make it earlier. If you want, you can have an absolute monarchy.

I'll also create some "AI" civilizations. If anyone wants to make an extra civ, I can play it as an AI. I'll start the RP as soon as we have three people.

Since it looks like others are not going to be joining in the near future, I'll go ahead and get this RP started probably next Tuesday. More people make for a better RP, but I guess there will just be a lot of AI nations. Perhaps others will join in the meantime...

OK, here is a year zero map. Assuming this works, gray will represent unexplored areas, green is the land of Mycro's people (have a name for the country?) and yellow is Sirius's claimed lands.

Hmm. That's too bad. I was hoping I didn't have to use Google Docs again. Well, they are on the first page of OOC. I'll update maps as you discover other nations.

On another note, how do you want languages to be? Here are some things that I was toying with. I prefer the 3rd option:
1. Every nation has it's own language (that would get annoying)
2. Every nation has the same language
3. Every region has the same language (or very similar sounding ones). That allows for neighboring countries to communicate, but causes trouble communicating with far away nations (ie. West Australia, East Australia, Ne Zealand, East Indonesia, West Indonesia, Borneo, Philippines, Siam, Vietnam and East India)

Only one blue robed guy. Obviously a sign of rank. As to the language...probably different but if you are lucky similar (give it a try).

Why does Canberra exist? IOTL, Canberra was created as an alternative capital to Australia so as to avoid choosing between Sydney and Melbourne. Since Sydney is Arqariqo, wouldn't Melbourne be a better fit here?
