Year 850, Trost District

It was the final day of the 104th's existence. Today was graduation - after that the former trainees would each be assigned to a branch of the military. Only the top ten of each class could qualify for the Military Police; which in turn made a number of hopefuls very unhappy. Among the top ranked trainees for the southern division was Eren Yeager, who had made no secret of his desire to join the Scouting Legion instead of the MPs.

A number of people felt this was basically wasting a slot - several remarks had already been made to the effect of "hey, if Yeager isn't going to use it can I have it?" Naturally these weren't brought up anywhere near an instructor or Yeager himself. The former carried authority behind them and the latter was well known for being very good at hand-to-hand and for his extremely poor temper.

"Its finally time Armen" Eren says "Finally we can go out and fight"

"Yeah but, I really don't know what much I can do"

Eren looks at his friend "Have you been listening to those guys? You know those guys are just trying to make you feel like crap"

Alette Falk, one of the trainees who had not made top ten, was morosely going about her orders. The newly-graduated Cadets had been instructed to perform routine maintenance on Wall Rose's cannons while they waited for their chance to choose which branch of the military to join. Listening to Yeager going on about how he wanted to kill Titans was definitely not improving her mood on the subject either - the lunatic had ended up cleaning the cannon right next to the one she was assigned to and would not shut up.

Suddenly, a wet rag soars through the air and hits Yeager in the face.

Lothar Gagnon, another one of the trainees, looks up from his cannon. "Shut up and clean your cannon already, you can monologue all you want once you're dead. "

Eren lets the rag fall to the floor and he looks at Lothar "Oh sh*t" Arman says

Eren walks up to Lothar and he sweeps his legs from under him making him fall on his face "Your lucky I'm in a good mood"

Then the trainees hear a new maneuver gear start up and Mikasa Ackerman lands on the top of the wall

"Hey Mikasa" Arman says

Mikasa sees Eren next to the downed Lothar "What did you do now?"

"Not a damn thing" Eren says walking away

Lothar stands up and brushes off dirt from his uniform, goinhg back to work on the cannon. "Didn't hurt!" he called after Yeager.

Eren turns around to beat the tar out of Lothar but Mikasa stops him "Just get back to working"

Eren grudgingly goes back to washing the cannon

Alette had, for the most part, ignored all this as best she could - difficult seeing as the cannon she was working on was in between Yeager's and Lothar's. It wasn't her problem and frankly she didn't want to get in a fight with either Yeager or Ackerman - both of them had top marks in hand-to-hand combat. Still, she couldn't keep the irritation off her face.

Lothar fishes around in his uniform's pocket and pulls out a small loaf of bread. He breaks off a piece and starts eating s he works.

"You know, the both of you could just shut up and do your jobs and save everyone listening to you the trouble." Alette snapped, scrubbing a scorch mark off the cannon's barrel with rather more force than was necessary.

That was that problem sorted. Alette inspected the cannon barrel - it looked to be alright. Now for the mechanism.

Eren and his three friends continue to do their work as normal. Once they were done they all start to go away "Mikasa are you really joining the scouts with Eren?"

"Yes" she says simply

"I already told you I don't need you to protec-" before Eren could finish the sentence a flash of lightning lights up the sky. In one second the space by the wall went from nothing but air to having the famed Colossal Titan in its place "TITAN!" Eren screams before the titan sweeps its hands, sending all of the people on the wall and its supplies out into the air.

Alette barely had time to look in the direction of the Colossal Titan before she was suddenly thrown off the Wall and into the air over Trost District. Before she'd fallen more than a third of the way down she fired her Maneuver Gear on reflex, anchoring to the side and quickly stopping her descent. It took her a few seconds before her mind caught up with what had just happened. "...S-son of a bitch!" she whispered, looking over her shoulder at the shadow of the Colossal Titan's head peering over the Wall.

Lothar's experience is identical to Alette's, except for he didn't activate his gear in time and broke through a roof of a nearby building.

With a bit of truble Armen managed to get anchored as well. Eren and Mikasa expertly got themselves in a stable position before Eren jumps up and at the Colossal Titan "Eren don't!" Mikasa screams

Eren ignores her and attacks the colossal titan head on

That was absolutely no surprise, Alette thought to herself. Leave it to Yeager to pull something like that...although it made sense - if he could keep the Colossal Titan from breaking down the gate in the Wall then everything should be fine.

By that logic, she and everyone else here should really go and help. She really should. Which meant moving, not just standing here in terror. Alette fumbled with the latches for her blades, hands shaking so much she took a full five seconds to actually have swords in hand. Deliberately not thinking too much about the numerous ways the Titan could kill her she boosted upwards, reeling in the gear's cables to pop back up over the top of the Wall.

The two trainees that came over the wall came to see something of a surprise, Yeager actually holding his own against the Colossal Titan. The titan swung at Eren but he used his gear and dodged each of the blows. When moment presented itself he ran up the arm of the Titan "ARE YOU JUST GOING TO STAND THERE OR ARE YOU GOING TO DO YOUR DUTY AND FIGHT!?!" he calls down to Lothar and Alette

Alette, now amazed as well as terrified, promptly took to the air again, shooting one anchor into the Colossal Titan's forehead and jetting off the Wall, trying to swing behind it and attack the weak point.

Alette and Eren both swung around to attack the Colossal's weak spot. Just before they got close enough a huge amount of heat and steam blocked them from coming any closer

Alette shielded her face with one arm as she twisted mid-air, firing the other hook into the top of Wall Rose to stop her from falling into the cloud of steam.
