Re: Mass Effect
Without any cover of its own, the robot went down, taking a shot straight into its flashlight-esque head. The other one was easily handled after that.
Kaidan jogged up to the woman's body, quickly running his omni-tool over it, before grimacing. "She's gone, Commander." After a quick glance around the area to make sure more hostiles weren't appearing, the lieutenant went over to one of the robots.
They weren't particularly well-armored, and they showed the same basic body plan of many alien races - digitigrade stance, three digits per limb. Motive power seemed to be derived from synthetic muscle-like fibers as opposed to servos and motors. Also, where Shepard and Kaidan had shot them, their bodies appeared to have leaked some sort of white fluid of indeterminate purpose.
Kaidan looked up at the commander. "Sir...I think these are geth!" He sounded bewildered, and for good reason - the geth had never been encountered by humans before. By all accounts, they kept largely to themselves after they'd thrown the quarians off of their worlds three centuries ago. But here they were, in force and killing humans.

Re: Mass Effect
"Keep moving forward" Shepard ordered firing at any Geth that came close. He didn't really care why the geth were here but they were killing humans. That was more then a good reason to take them down

Re: Mass Effect
Kaiden nodded and followed Shepard over the next rise. They found the dig site without any additional geth interference - but no beacon. "The geth must have moved it. Maybe that's why they attacked this colony."
Re: Mass Effect
Shepard checks his map to see if he can locate the beacon

Re: Mass Effect
He couldn't - but just up the ramps leading to the dig site was a camp. That was as good a place as any to start looking - even if the beacon wasn't there, survivors might be able to point them to it.

Re: Mass Effect
As they ascended, they came to a fairly tightly grouped cluster of buildings. "Great place for an ambush..." Kaidan muttered. No ambush was apparent - though a few of those spikes were visible. The corpses hanging from them were odd - their skin was stone-grey and blue lights reminiscent of circuitry lit up their skin like a Christmas tree.
Then one of the spikes retracted. And the corpse that had been hanging on it rolled off and clawed its way to its feet. "Oh God, they're still alive!" Kaidan sounded revolted, wondering what the geth had done to them.
Wasn't much time to wonder, though. The three corpses started loping towards Shepard and his companion.

Re: Mass Effect
Shepard took aim and put the corpses out of their misery.

Re: Mass Effect
The corpses went down easily enough. No other threats presented themselves, and Kaidan went to examine a small building nearby. "Door's locked. Someone might have barricaded themselves in, Commander."

Re: Mass Effect
They didn't seem to want to come out. Kaidan managed to override the lock though - and when they stepped inside, they found a coupld of people cowering behind overturned furniture. One of them visibly relaxed when they arrived. "Humans, thank god!"
"Shhh, quiet! Don't bring them back here!"
