Nora rubbed the layer of dust from the screen and booted it up as well. Taking the plug from it, she inserted it into the socket, checking the Pip-Boy's screen. A moment later, the cover on the red button clicked open. Disconnecting the wrist-mounted computer, she decided that the button was probably not a self-destruct given that it was right next to the freaking door and pressed it.

For a few moments, nothing happened, then, something did happen, and that something was the sound of the two massive locks on the vault door disengaging, the large, gear-like door slowly spun, the sounds of hissing steam and grinding metal are heard, the two vault-sicles are blinded by a great, white light, after god knows how long they are finally getting out, what could be on the other side of the door? as the light fades and the vault-sicle's eyes adjust they see what they have been waiting for since they awoke...

An elevator.

Nora lowered the hand she'd used to shield her eyes, thinking that was rather anticlimactic. She figured the Pip-Boy may prove useful later, and secured it to her wrist.

"That was anti-climactic." Clarence comments "But it's the way out so we shouldn't complain."

Clarence walks towards the elevator and looks for any controls.

after a few seconds, the large elevator door closes, leaving them stuck inside, the two hear the sound of screeching metal as the cables used to make the elevator actually, elevate, haven't been used in some time. As the elevator crawls upward, the two can hear the metallic voice from earlier say, in a rather pleasant voice,

" Enjoy your trip to the surface, and thank you for choosing Vault-tec.
The massive vault surface door opens, letting in another blinding light, this light however, actually meant something, the two had finally made it to the surface.

MEANWHILE SOMEWHERE NOT HERE...

Barry, was bored, he thought that if he joined the Minutemen, under the guise of general Akira Winter, he would be able to actually help people, killing ghouls, super mutants, and the occasional deathclaw. what he didn't think he would do was stand at a boring as hell guard station, in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere. he heard a small, continuous sound, like if someone had fallen asleep on one of the keys of a piano. he looked over to see what the source of the sound was, that source, accompanied by a small red light bulb, was the alarm to signal  if that massive vault door would ever open. Barry thought it never would have. it hadn't in the last 6 months, why should it now?

Barry's reaction was, pretty standard for the situation, as his standard issue, laser musket clattered to the floor, he ran back to the Minutemen headquarters in Sanctuary to tell the general of this important event.

As they neared the surface and sunlight spilled through the now-open Vault door, Nora squeezed her eyes tightly shut. Damn...hopefully her eyes adjusted quickly. Come to think of it, hopefully they didn't just get fried by radiation instantaneously. Maybe they should have thought of that first.

Too late now...But she wasn't dead yet, so clearly it wasn't as big of an issue as all that.

Clarence blinked the black spots out of his eyes so that his eyes would adjust quicker. As soon as his eyes did adjust however, he immediately regretted it. The world, what the fuck happened?

Don't misunderstand, Clarence knew Fallout when he saw it but nothing close to this magnitude.

So he said two words "Holy shit."

The first thing the vault-sicles  were able to notice about the earth, was that it was certainly not as cold as the vault. The next thing they noticed were... the place looked like absolute, cancer-ridden, shit.  there was little to no vegetation growing, all of the trees were dead and rotting, giving off a very creepy vibe, if this was at night,

As nor swept her gaze over the wasteland, she could see... a fence?

Blinking rapidly to clear her own vision, Nora squinted at the structure around Sanctuary Hills - her old home. That was...new? Why on earth was there this giant eyesore of a fence there? And how did it survive the bomb? "What the hell...?"

MEANWHILE

bARRY DIDN'T KNOW HIS LUNGS COULD ACHE THIS BADLY, AFTER SPRINTING BACK TO sANCTUARY, AND HAVING TO DODGE ALL OF THE SECURITY GUARDS LINING THE PERIMETER, HE BURST INTO THE GENERAL'S QUARTERS.

"General, I have word from guard-post B, it happened."

the general, Akira Winter, turned her head, her green eyes flashing with intrigue. She whipped her head around, causing her long ponytail to whack a supporting officer. "get me all available units, and make your way to the vault, do not fire, now move!" She said, prompting all of her guards, and barry as well, to rush out of the office. Akira puts on her general's hat, which was a tri-corner model, and loads her revolver.

"looks like we have company."

Before Clarence could give any kind of answer, the two heard the sounds of feet running their way, the sounds were accompanied by the sights of, what looked like soldiers. These soldiers weren't in modern gear however, they were all wearing differently armored versions of continental army uniforms. What was more concerning than their uniforms however was the fact that all of them were pointing weapons at the pair. They looked very strange, long, rifle-type weapons with laser coils running through them.

The soldier in the most armor, presumabley at a higher rank than the rest, stated in a demanding voice,

"Don't move, stay where you are!"

Nora wasn't sure which was more surprising - the fact that people had survived the nuclear bombs or the fact that they were pointing guns at her. Either way, she only took a moment to work past the surprise before taking a pace back and raising her hands.

"I'm going to have to ask you to come with me, I have many questions to ask the both of you." the soldier says, lowering her weapon slightly, prompting uneasy glances from the other, lower-ranked grunts. Akira looks over to one of the guards. "Private Evermore, please bind these two and escort them to HQ."

Private Erik Evermore walked slowly towards the Vault Dwellers and went behind them both. "Please don't resist. It'll be easier for us." He then place their hands behind backs and binding it with some strong rope. What caught his interest was the devices on their arms, but there wasn't time for that.

"Now that that's taken care of, what might your names be?" Akira asks, this question was followed by a small snicker from one of the soldiers, Akira's head whipped toward that soldier, causing her ponytail to thwack the face of a soldier behind her.

"Private Hanson, step forward, now." She says, wrath dripping from her words. at that moment, all eyes turned toward private Hanson, who's face had turned an interesting shade of pale. Hanson shakily stepped forward out of the group and couldn't quite make eye contact with the general.

"Hanson, was what I said funny in any sort of way?" Akira says, slowly brandishing a polished, steel revolver.

Hanson's face somehow was able to turn even paler, "W-well sir, it's just t-that... they might not even remember their names... sir." Hanson was visibly sweating by this point.

Akira pointed the revolver at Hanson's face, point blank, and looked down the barrel. "report to my quarters this evening, I have something to discuss with you." She says, putting away the revolver.

"C-certainly sir." Hanson stammered, his voice cracking at the end of the sentence.

"Good, dismissed." Akira says, as Hanson scurried back behind two other soldiers.
