[Being within the "no-swing zone" would with a man wielding a sword necessitate hugging him, you know, and furthermore that would be next to impossible to do without the guy introducing his shield to your face. Also, you can't burn through platemail; metal normally melts and the amount of energy that requires would sap whatever sort of arcane reserves Phoenix has. That's why swords are useful; concentrating the momentum of a big heavy piece of metal on the small area of the edge to break through armor.]

[Not closing to melee with the guy wearing full plate and a shield with a sword, for one. You can throw fire, and even if you can't melt the platemail you can still roast the guy in his armor; those things are unbearable in summertime and also he may have flammable padding beneath the metal to protect from blunt weapons.]

Phoenix's blade misses the Knight 2's throat by a millimeter but one of the flames caught something flamible that is coming out from under the Knight 2's armor.
