"Grr. You incompetent fools, I want you to find them NOW" David yelled. The guards split up, in the hopes that their escapees are still nearby.

A member of the Truth God Temple came up, having witnessed the commotion greeted David "Varild [Truth God] be with you."

"I don't have time for your poetry..." David snarled, annoyed.

"Where is the head wizard may I ask?"

"I was just getting to that, genius."

"Excellent" The Varild priest smiled. He'd been looking for an excuse to close down the wizards tower and here it was: Overwizard aiding prisoners escape. The higher-ups would be very pleased indeed "I will close the tower until such time that the owner returns. Scribe! GET to the temple and tell the guards there to come."

"...OK..." David knew best to avoid dabbling into temple v. magic politics. He instead turned to his trackers "OK, can you perchance tell me where they went?"

"Yes, bit first we will have to complete a few rituals, several magical spells and then bind it [tracking spell] to an object."

"Can nothing be simple in this world. How long do you need?"

"Hours if lucky, days if not."

Aaron looks at smoldar "If they try a tracking spell, it will take hours if not days to get done. So you may consider yourself free"

The Overwizard had pointedly ignored any conversation about Smoldar's status as a prisoner. Lucare's city guard was largely under the thumb of that idiotic "Truth God" religion, none of whom liked the Tower's study of magic very much. Plus the captain was even more idiotic than most acolytes of that religion, so he was quite pleased to futz up the process of justice.

Arguably it would be even better if the priesthood tried to shut down the Lucare Tower...an Overwizard had considerable peers indeed; hence why he had been able to needle them constantly without fear of retaliation.

The temple priests were quite efficient at getting the wizard tower shut down. All wizards were rounded up and brought to questioning by Cardinal Suleli. Books were brought out to be transported to the "real" Truth Temple. The Cardinal was indeed a happy man. Because of the wizards corruption of course the whole magic festival would be shut down and non-clergy magic users were removed from public office. It was quite easy now that there wasn't an overwizard to stand in his way in the Chamber of Lords.
