He winked.

Then he turned back to the body and waved the dowser over it, concentrating.

David turned tomato red, but knew better than to break the fool's concentration.

A government official approaches David "We have heard that some prisoners escaped. I think they killed the poor priest."

"Hmmm. I does seem suspicious" David said partially to the official, partially to himself.

"Praecantation means we're dealing with a more powerful and unstable individual, perhaps a serial rapist. At the very least his impulses are out of control if he is willing to deal with the Otherworld in exchange for more power."

"I know, a distraction!" Smoldar says, gathering the surrounding torch flames and sending them into the air in one giant ball, whereupon reaching their apex, they split into 5 smaller fireballs that begin raining hell upon the city, preferable near the guards.

"Now we can get away!"

The rain reduced the effectiveness of the fireballs quite a bit and only angered the squadron. The guards started running after the prisoners.

David glares at Julios, clearly signaling to him the need to not bring that subject up again.

I'm afraid you may have a serious problem on your hands; this man may be drawing off of previous victims' vis and utilising it as a source of power."

Exasperated, the man ran a hand over his hairless scalp. After muttering something that definitely included the word "dense," he turned to face Julios.

"There is an inherent difficulty to performing magic on another person's body. There is a resistance to it, which is why it is generally quite difficult to, say, turn someone's flesh to gold. This was obviously not a problem for the murderer we're dealing with, so he must be drawing off of quite a lot of magical power, either the life force of previous victims or the energies from the Otherworld."
