Wards office was in the center of the complex. At the outside Laura found a good spot to listen in

"How bad was it?" Orimura asks

"Take a guess" Ward responds

"So a big pile of shit?"

"Exactly"

There was a moment of silence "Are you trying to come off as a absolute jackass?"

"People train better if they hate there commander. They want to prove them wrong so they fight harder. You do the same so you can't argue"

Laura had to disagree with that. She worshiped Mentor, and out of the four girls from the Academy she was the best in a one on one fight by a large margin. Plus she had always been trained to ignore emotions. They blurred your perception of the world, caused you to make mistakes.

Clearly the evidence contradicted that statement. But they were talking again, so Laura stopped thinking and resumed listening.

That, in turn, meant Germany was defenseless against any kind of IS-fronted attack. An attack by a nation was unlikely - IS' were the new nuclear weapons, and nobody wanted to be the first to deploy them - but if whatever terrorist group had stolen Advent and attacked the Academy returned, her entire homeland was at their mercy. NATO obliged other IS-fielding countries to assist Germany, but if Schwarzer Hase was destroyed and they got off the best, it was likely that the rest of Europe had been hit harder and any surviving IS' were almost certainly being kept to defend their own nation.

All that took a second for Laura to process. The German pilot went from shocked young woman to professional soldier in another second. "General Vard, it has been an honor serving viz you. I must return to Germany to protect my country."

Mira, pre-explosion, was walking down the hallway to her door. She rounded a corner and saw the tank full of sea anemones and instantly turned on her heel in one fluid motion and walked back around the corner. And and and.

Laura nearly fell over (standing at attention equals no balance), but caught herself quickly. "Vhat vas zat?!"

Cecilia almost dropped her phone, then quickly went to her window.

Charlotte ran to her window as well.

Orimura, who wasn't thrown off balance grabbed the phone at Wards desk and activated the speaker "WHAT THE F@#$ WAS THAT AND UNLESS YOU WANT ME TO REARRANGE YOUR BALLS YOU BETTER GIVE A GOOD ANSWER. LITTLE HINT I DON'T KNWO ISN'T A GOOD ANSWER"

The man on the other end of the phone thought about what he was going to say before answering "We were hit by. Wait, its a pod?"
