As Smoldar's group reach the gate, they find it blocked by two guards "hey you! What are you doing up so late? No trying to sneak out of town to the Misty Tavern are you?"

"...or perhaps they are robbers" the other guard reasoned.

"...or maybe they are trying to take over our minds" the first guard said, horrified.

"...no they'd done it by now. Dodging taxes perhaps..."

"Official orders from the captain, escorting these 2 prisoners to the next town." Smoldar says, gesturing to the elf and Jack.

Aaron nods back and without the guards seeing hi congers a lightning snake on the other side of the gate. It sees the guards and hisses, Aaron the screams "LOOK A BEAST CONJURED BY MAGIC" he looks at the guards "DO YOUR DUTY AND KILL IT"

The guards have on a WTF expression until one of them rallies the rest "COME ON THEN. CHARGE"

All of the guards go to engage the lightning snake witch goes out off the path out of the street and into the night, leaving the group there alone.

Aaron turns to the group and bows

"Athenian! Let's get the hell outta here!" Octavion shouts as he and Anastasia run through the back door.

Jack with his enhanced eyes can see the ruins about a mile ahead "hold up" jack takes a big snort of the air around them seing if it has any smells that are strange.

Julios pushes the guard off him, stands up, and follows David. "HALT!" he shouts.

Octavion pushes market stalls and barrels over as he and Anastasia run through the marketplace to slow the advance of David and the guards.

The ruins possessed an unnatural air, like something had been off. It wasn't a scent, but Aaron and Smoldar could both sense that the fabric of reality had been sundered and repaired here.

As the trio continued into the ruins, Jack began to sense the general feeling of things being off. The two mages, being more attuned to the arcane, felt as though there were a continuous, faint scream in the air. It wasn't an actual sound, but it might as well have been.

"Hey there," Octavion says to the guards. "Don't mind us. Just passing through."

There were no guards at the gate it turned out. They were busy fighting/ ceing chased by a lightning snake. David and the guards were trying to fight their way through the mess that Octavian and Anastasia had created.

Octavion and Anastasia run through the gates and straight to the ruins, where the rest of the group were located.

"What is this place?" Anastasia asks.
